Dear Cleveland Hazamirniks,

Wow did we have a great time at intervisitational! I can’t wait to tell you all about it. Chamber choir members be prepared to tell a favorite story or aspect you liked the most, on Sunday!

There will be lots to talk about, and we will have lots to do…. so come EARLY….!

1) This Sunday we welcome our newest member Eden Skoff. A few of you have offered to welcome Eden personally and I would appreciate that, as would her mom Ilana. We will have her sitting in the alto section and see how that works out. I would like her to be surrounded by strong alto singers (upperclassmen if possible).

2) we will (hopefully) be handing out our missing piece “Yah Ribon”.

3) If you want to sing a solo at festival, all of the solo’s are open to audition (see below) … BUT I MUST APPROVE YOU FIRST. NY does not want every one in the world auditioning and wants to be sure you are ready so it is up to the conductors to decide who gets to do the initial auditions by MP3 or CD. Chamber musicians are automatically approved. Anyone else must see me for permission. You will be notified by email if you get a call-back. Call backs will be at festival first thing.

4) if you missed a rehearsal and owe me a testing session come 1/2 hour early. If you can’t come early you must contact me by THURSDAY eve. We have covered these songs at the last rehearsal: Arba midot and Shabbat Ha Malka.

5) On Sunday we all will finish learning: Shabbat Ha Malka, L’dor Vador (Nelson/Edelman), and begin La Y’hudim Haita Ora…… of which there are MP3’s that you can find on the Hazamir music website below.

HaZamir Singers

We have been asked to sing the Star Spangled Banner and Hatikvah at the American Friends of Magen David Adom’s Walk for Israel on Oct. 25th at 9:00 A.M. (we sing at 8:45). After singing, we thought it would be fun to have a HaZamir team participate in the race. It is 5K walk/run. In order to be a team, we need to have 5 people sign up under “Team HaZamir.” If we get at least 10 people to sign up, we can pick our own color for our t-shirt. (Every race participant gets a T-Shirt).

So…… I need people to sign up so I know how many we have and if we have 10 by Tues. then we will have our own color t-shirt fo r the race. Anyone can sign up under “Team HaZamir”. They don’t have to be a member of the choir to join the team, just sign up for the race and pay the $15 race entry fee. You can sign up by sending in the form I gave you at rehearsal last week or by going on line at the website: www.afmda-cleve.org.

The race is only 2 weeks away and if we are going to make a team, I need people to commit to race. Send in your registration to AFMDA and e-mail me at muppetfan92@aol.com to let me know you are joining the team.

Thanks
Ben

Dear Hazamirniks,

Good rehearsal! I know I had fun!
We were so busy with intros, games, handing out music etc… that we had very little time to actually rehearse. But the little that we did rehearse went very well. We achieved a really beautiful sound in Hatikva, especially toward the end when we made the perfect unified and in-tune harmony. It seemed as if time was suspended for just a moment, I got goose bumps! I can tell, even at this early stage, that 2009-10 Hazamir Cleveland is going to be an amazing experience for us all.
Next week we will start preparing for our appearance with Craig Taubman on October 25th, by rehearsing his L’Dor Vador, continue work on Hatikva, and we will also learn a cool arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner, because we may be asked in the future to appear at various events to perform the national anthem.
A few things:
I want to ask that everyone take part and help with the set up and break down of the rehearsal space. If we all help, the burden won’t fall on the few kind souls who have been helping every time.
If you have not already done so, go online and check for MP3’s, Hazamir forms, PDF’s of music and the Hazamir calendar.
Remember to read and sign the singer’s contract and return that with your conflict sheet, next rehearsal.
Lastly, I would like to call attention to how lucky we are to have such wonderful and talented additions to our Hazamir roster. Newniks, Jenna, Jessica, Jacob, and Miriam fit right in and you were very welcoming to them. Thank you for being such a great group.
Please pass the word that though our pre-season auditions are closed, we continue to audition throughout the fall season. We are especially in need of men.
Questions about music or attendance? Email me Bellissimasop@sbcglobal.net
Questions about forms, fees, schedule, etc… Call or email the Akiva office and talk to Judy Shafron.
Shalom,
Sharon
